The Giving Tree, a book by Shel Silverstein was a childhood favorite of mine. This giant Douglas Fir is giving back much to our family. The main trunk will make timbers to build with. The branches will serve to keep out home warm during the winter months. The needles and small branches will be used for mulch in the garden and greatly reduce the amount of water needed for irrigation. The saw dust will balance our compost and help to soak up any oil spills I may have in the shop. The labor required to process this tree will keep our bodies fit and in good shape. The memory of a family working together will last forever.
